Tutorial: Combo Starter Gunpla Tools for Beginner Putaro Style by Putra Shining

Hi and welcome to Putaro Plastic Modeller! Welcome to another of my tutorial for gunpla building. As you can see on the top photos shows a HG 1/144 Waff and tools, those are the tools that I used to build that kit. Yup, just straight build out of box with just panel lining and NO top coats. The point is, you can build a clean good kit without spending too much money.

I have spent almost 4 years building, painting, customizing and weathering gunplas, there are so many materials and tools that I have bought and used. Some are good, some are bad, some are just need skills to used. From raw basic tools and materials to professional tools and materials. From the cheapest to the expensive stuff. I have learned that if you have the skills, to can used any kind of materials and tools, but if you don't have time to learn, there are always a proper tools and materials to get the job done. The question is "what do you really have now, time or money?"

This tutorial shows my combo for any beginners that want to start this hobby. Some people just want to try build a gunpla, some just want have fun and some people just don't have lots of money to spend on. So, this combo maybe can help you as a new Gunpla Builders.

This tutorial are made for low budget or "I just wanna have fun" new Gunpla Builders. These combo are made base on Putra Shining's research and experience as Gunpla Builder for several years. All the items are displayed are SUGGESTION or MAYBE HARD TO GET for you.

I already upload the HG 1/144 Waff review on the last part of this tutorial so you can see the results just by using just several tools.

ARE YOU READY? LET'S START!

Before we begin, this is a PLATO NIPPER, one of THE BEST CHEAP NIPPER for building gunpla. You can find it at some hardware store, hobby store, art store etc. So I really recommend this Nipper for you. It's cheap and really good quality. Just don't cut any materials besides plastic if you want to keep it sharp.

These are the "All you need for-". I have list some Combos for you, these are list from the lowest cost to higher cost to have it. These combo are made for your budget to have them. These combo are suggestion and guide for you and can made your mind which kind of combo that suits your taste for gunpla and your budget. Let's begin!

COMBO 01: These are the basic tools to have the maximum gunpla experience. Hobby Knife, Nipper, Gundam Marker (Black). Mine's Hobby Knife are DAISO JAPAN. You can buy any hobby knife at art store or hardware store or hobby store, they all have the same function. As for the Nipper, this is mine, CITADEL NIPPER, you can just used PLATO NIPPER or any kind for Nipper AS LONG you buy it from a hobby store because NOT all nippers are suitable for gunpla. For the Gundam Marker, yes you need it, because there will no fun if you did not panel lining your gunpla.

COMBO 02: Do you starting to like gunpla, planning to build more? Find yourself a tweezer so you can put some stickers or decals easily.

COMBO 03: For those who like build clean and have some finishing look. Samurai Spray Paint for topcoat, you can have CLEAR, MATTE CLEAR or CLEAR GLOSS. For more info about topcoat, click [HERE]

COMBO 04: A combo for those who ready to build a fine gunpla. Just get any super glue is fine for your gunpla, you can find it at any local hardware or art store.

COMBO 05: "Wow! Your gunpla looks like came out from the TV Commercial!". These are the tools for building another level gunpla that are look stunning as the display kit on Gunpla Expo or any gunpla gallery or commercial and advertising. The Gundam Marker (Grey) can help you to have variation of deep, it can make your High Grade looks like Real Grade. And don't forget to get the Hobby Knife some extra blades (This one I got from DAISO JAPAN, same with the hobby knife).

COMBO 06: The combo for weathering. Gundam Real Touch Marker (Black and Brown) are suitable for any kind of weathering and effects for gunpla. Those Real Touch Marker also can helps you with panel lining and to covers dark nub marks.

COMBO 07: Now you can have both kind of gunpla for your collection. Clean or weathered.

COMBO 08: These are for people who like shiny glossy gunpla, You can just by a metallic Gundam Marker to make you gunpla more details or shiny. Try to get silver color first because it can helps you to paint some small parts to make it looks like metal and to make your gunpla have more details. Just get two metallic markers and choose what you like.

COMBO 09: These are the last low budget combo. So if you like my weathering technique and wich to try it out, this is the combo that you have to get. Now you can have both! Weathering, or clean. Gundam Metallic Grey Marker can helps you in weathering as effect of metal chipping besides detailing on small parts.

COMBO 10: Don't like messy stuff and have a bit of money to spend? This is the one. The Mr.Hobby Top Coat is a common thing for the builders around the world, even the size are small but the effect and results are good. You can get any hobby store. The Tamiya Weathering Master can make save a lot of money in the future because it can be used for several years. I recommend the set C because it has the basic weathering effects for gunpla. Instead of using marker, you can weathering tools to make the weathering more realistic.

COMBO 11: The perfect combo for weathering madness. Those Gundam Real Touch Marker also can be used for cover up nub marks and shades gunpla to make it look more deep.

COMBO 12: This are the tools and materials for serious collectors that wants make their gunpla looks like in the TV and Gunpla Expo's display kit.

COMBO 13: This are the tools for a serious build, that want to build a perfect clean or weathered gunpla. The cements are much more like a glue but much have better effects on plastic. The sand paper cube are a bit tricky to find, it's a very good for sanding your gunpla nub marks, besides it's build for gunpla. You can get it at any hobby store.

COMBO 14: This a combo for serious builders that want to join this hobby with the best quality product that he/she can get. All these items can get from online or any hobby store.
